About me

Hi! I’m Scott, a front-end development student.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve always, always loved being creative. As a kid growing up in England, my parents used to joke about how I would sit for hours on end playing with Lego, building things, dismantling, re-building and never tiring of the experience. If I wasn’t making things out of Lego, I’d be drawing or finding some other artistic pursuit. My love of this transitioned as I became slightly older and throughout my teens years as it happened to coincide with an ever changing more digital world.

I’d create blogs, small webpages and continue to make things but as is sadly often the case with many people – I fell into the cooperate trap and became swallowed up by day jobs that I didn’t enjoy, very little social time and as a result the creative spark in me slowly extinguished.

Fast forward a few years to 2007 and I end up meeting my partner, now wife Emelie, and after a short period of travelling back and forward to Sweden to visit I made the decision to move permanently.

I won’t pretend that it was a particularly easy transition but nevertheless, I was fortunate enough to find work after a few months of moving here – despite having absolutely no knowledge of Swedish at the time. It took a few years to fully adjust to my surroundings but I ultimately fell in love my new home. I mean, How could you not?

Fast forward to 2024 and after having worked for many years in IT I found myself being made redundant from a job I truly enjoyed, and in my mid 30’s I faced a choice — continue in comfortable, but ultimately uninspiring roles, or finally take the leap into something I’d always dreamed of. So, at 37, I decided to study web development — confronting my old impostor syndrome head-on and reigniting the creative spark that started all those years ago with Lego and sketchpads.

Being that little bit older and having so much work experience it definitely feels a little strange adjusting to being a student again but my thirst for learning and being creative has been reignited and I’m really enjoying it.

My goal is now very simple: to make technology feel more human — beautiful, intuitive, and just a little bit fun. It’s important we don’t lose sight of that and make sure we continue to do the things we love and enjoy. I just wish I could have had the 38 year old me tell me that when I was 20 😊

When I’m not coding, I enjoy exercising and training — an area I hope to develop practical, everyday tools for that can be used (and loved) by other like-minded tech and fitness enthusiasts but most importantly, I love spending time with my beautiful three children, who never fail to remind me how creativity and curiosity start — and thrive — at home.

If I sound like the type of person you’d like working as part of your team, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. I’m currently searching for internship (LIA) opportunities — and I’d love to hear from you – contact@gbg-web.com
